摘要

The purpose of this study is to examine the workplace challenges experienced by Indian gig workers managed by algorithmic management systems and to gather their suggestions for improving their working conditions within this structure. The goal of this research is to enhance understanding of how algorithmic management impacts gig workers’ experiences and contribute towards the creation of an equitable work environment. A Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA) technique was employed to identify key themes from the data (Braun and Clarke, Qual Res Psychol 3(2) 77–101, 2006; Palliat Med 38(6) 608–616, 2024). This method involves generating codes based on the participants’ responses, with themes emerging from these codes through an iterative process. NVivo 15 software was used to analyze the collected data. Based on the analysis of the respondents’ responses, eleven challenges and eight suggestions were classified. These challenges were categorized into three main themes –employee voice behavior, workplace well-being and job performance. Additionally, a word cloud and a word tree were generated to visualize this data. This study contributes to the meagre literature on people experience management of Indian gig workers working through algorithmic management. By focusing on the intersection of technology, digital labor dynamics, and worker well-being, the study offers relevant insights for practitioners and policymakers, contributing to the development of a more equitable, supportive and sustainable working environment for Indian gig workers.
