<p>In this reflection, we offer some thoughts on how Emerson’s teachings and mentorship have shaped our research methodologies, our insight on law and society research, and justice policy. In particular, we discuss how Emerson’s approach to qualitative methods provides a unique and much needed perspective into the processes and mechanisms by which racial and economic inequalities are exacerbated by the criminal and juvenile legal systems.</p>
