<p>According to the latest reports by international evaluation organizations, new forms of political dynamics in democracies are emerging globally that, paradoxically, endanger the very development of democracy: the rise of populism and social and political polarization, new forms of democratic authoritarianism, and, consequently, the risk of autocracy that endangers liberal democracy. This new scenario is also known as post-democracy, based on Crouch’s (<CitationRef CitationID="CR14">2004</CitationRef>) categorization. In this context, this article advocates revitalizing civic education based on a participatory and deliberative model of democracy through pedagogical proposals to rethink the fundamental values of democratic citizenship. The discussion is organized around pedagogical methodologies and approaches that aim to reinforce individuals’ sense of citizenship through cooperation, deliberation, and solidarity. These strategies seek to consolidate the ethical and civic values of democracy in an intercultural and global context such as ours by countering the dangers of social fragmentation, the appeal of authoritarianism, and the withdrawal of identity that characterize post-democratic world trends.</p>
