Augmenting Nonprofit Governance Mechanisms: Insights from the French Approach
摘要
Governance is crucial to the success and longevity of nonprofit organizations (NPOs). The aim of this article is to demonstrate how the French vision of governance can contribute to enriching thinking on NPO governance. French researchers have focused on cognitive and behavioral perspectives, in addition to disciplinary (agency and partnership) perspectives, and they emphasize a need for “reasonable governance”. Based on this literature, it is possible to establish a typology of governance mechanisms for NPOs. This article contributes to the operationalization of the concept of governance, especially for small NPOs with limited resources, far beyond France’s borders.
