The Impact of Social Identity on Legal Attitudes: Insights from the U.S., India, and Canada
摘要
This study examines how cultural identity influences legal attitudes in the U.S., India, and Canada, focusing on social identity’s role in shaping perceptions of law. Conducted among 213 university students in 2024, the research reveals significant cultural differences. In the U.S., support for legislation dropped from 94% in 2008 to 77% in 2024. In India, support increased from 1 to 8%, reflecting widespread distrust. Canadian students showed 52% favourability. The study highlights how collectivist cultures prioritize personal relationships over legal obligations, contrasting with the individualism of the U.S. and Canada, offering valuable insights for legal frameworks and policymakers.
