<p>Red algae, classified within the Rhodophyta group, have garnered increasing attention for their remarkable therapeutic properties. Constituting around 7000 species, red algae serve as a valuable reservoir of bioactive compounds with diverse applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and the food industry. This review explores the multifaceted therapeutic potential of red algae, emphasizing their significant role in promoting human health. The bioactive compounds derived from red algae, including sulfated galactan, carrageenan, peptides, phycobiliproteins, lectins, RuBisCO protein, bromophenol, and cholesterol, exhibit a spectrum of activities such as antimicrobial, antiviral, antitumor, antioxidant, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anticoagulant, antiallergic, and analgesic effects. Additionally, the emerging trends in the application of red algae have demonstrated potential in drug delivery systems via nanotechnology, as fluorescent dyes in photodynamic therapy, as nutraceutical formulations, as composites in bone-tissue engineering and as additives in cosmetics. Furthermore, this review discusses the challenges and limitations associated with utilizing red algae for human health applications. This comprehensive review provides insights into the diverse bioactive constituents of red algae and their applications, positioning these marine organisms as promising sources for developing therapeutic interventions. </p>
