摘要

According to Non-Humean theories of natural necessity, there is some sort of fundamental natural necessity in the world, which is supposed to guarantee the regularity of the universe. The goal of this paper is to explore a potential tension between Non-Humean theories and the empirical possibility that the laws of physics are deterministic. In particular, combining Non-Humeanism with deterministic laws threatens to make the fundamental facts either metaphysically redundant or arbitrary. In response to this tension, I present and discuss four metaphysical views that Non-Humeans can adopt that avoid this problem, each of which is highly revisionary.
