<p>Currently, cell experiments and animal experiments are essential steps that must be taken before new drugs or treatment methods can be applied clinically; however, both experiments have limitations. Organ-on-a-chip platforms, based on microfluidic chips, are cell culture devices used to construct and simulate the microenvironment of human tissues. They demonstrate a higher level of authenticity in terms of human physiological responses compared to cell experiments and animal experiments, showing significant potential in the fields of disease modeling, precision medicine, pharmacological studies, and drug development and screening. This review provides an overview and discussion of different organ-on-a-chip platforms and their applications in pharmacology research, as well as an analysis of possible future directions for their use. It is hoped that this review will inspire researchers in related fields.</p>
