<p>The possibility of spectrophotometric determination of tenoxicam (<b>I</b>) based on the extraction of its ion associate (IA) with the polymethine dye 5-thiocyanato-1,3,3-trimethyl-2-{(1<i>E</i>)-3-[(2<i>E</i>)-1,3,3-trimethyl-1<i>H</i>-indol-2-ylidine]propenyl}-3<i>H</i>-indolium chloride (<b>II</b>) was demonstrated. The maximum extraction of the IA with toluene was achieved at a pH of 6.0 – 11.0 of the aqueous phase and a dye concentration of (1.0 – 2.0) × 10<sup>–4</sup> M. The molar absorption coefficient of the IA was 7.8 × 10<sup>4</sup>. The detection limit of <b>II</b> was 0.49 μg/ml. The developed extraction-spectrophotometric determination method could determine tenoxicam concentrations of 1.0 – 20.1 μg/ml. The method was used to determine tenoxicam in pharmaceutical preparations (RSD = 0.82 – 1.52%).</p>
