UV Derivative Spectroscopy: A Comprehensive Review for Advancement in Quantification

Ultraviolet (UV) derivative spectroscopy is a highly effective analytical technique that involves measuring the rate of change of absorbance with respect to wavelength. Its versatility is evident in a broad range of fields in which it finds application, including pharmaceuticals, environmental monitoring, food industry, and biological and biochemical research. In the pharmaceutical industry, this method plays a crucial role in quality control and analysis of drugs and their formulations. The benefit of UV derivative spectroscopy over traditional UV–Vis spectroscopy includes improved spectral resolution, enhanced detection limit, and elimination of background signals and interferences. It is particularly useful in the analysis of complex samples where overlapping peaks and spectral interferences can make it difficult to identify and quantify individual components. This article provides an overview of the principles and applications of UV derivative spectroscopy, highlighting its importance as an analytical tool for the investigation of molecules in the UV region.
