<p>The antihypoxic effect of new 4,4,5,6-tetrasubstituted hexahydropyrimidine-2-ones (thiones) was evaluated in an <i>in vivo</i> model of normobaric hypoxia with hypercapnia. One compound, the antihypoxic activity of which turned out to be at the level of succinic acid activity, was found. The life expectancy of experimental animals increased by 26% against the background of its action. The prospects of searching for biologically active substances with antihypoxic activity in the series of methyl 6-aryl-5-aroyl-4-hydroxy(methoxy)-2-thioxohexa-hydropyrimidine-4-carboxylates have been proved.</p>
