Design of quad HG modal full-duplex MDM-RoF system employing integrated SMF-FSO link under severe weather conditions
摘要
Radio-over-fiber (RoF), the integration of wireless and optical communication, has been engaging perceptibly attention due to fiber unlimited bandwidth, extreme low propagation loss and electro-magnetic interference. In this work, a mode division multiplexing (MDM) based full-duplex RoF system using integrated single mode fiber and free space optics (SMF-FSO) link at 1 Gbps data rate is designed. Four Hermite Gaussian (HG)modes (HG [0,1], HG [1,0], HG [2,0] and HG [3,0]) are used in the system under clear air, haze, rain and fog conditions. Results depict that the system having fixed 10 km SMF range offers maximum FSO range of 30–100 m in downlink and 10–17 m in uplink direction, under all HG modes and different weather condition. This system can also offer acceptable bit error rate (BER) performance at 10 and 3.5 m-rad beam performance in downlink and uplink directions respectively, at 10 m FSO and 10 km SMF range under different weather conditions for all HG modes. For the same scenarios, the system can also sustain maximum additional loss of 5 dB in downlink and 0.3 dB in uplink transmission. Compared to existing works, this work provides optimum performance in terms of transmission distance, throughput and spectral efficiency.
