<p>The 2023 Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems (SDEWES) Conference served as the foundation for this Special Issue (SI) of the Optimization and Engineering journal, focusing on advances in engineering and optimization for sustainable development. Held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, the 18th SDEWES Conference brought together researchers to discuss innovative strategies for integrating energy, water, and environmental systems. Six papers carefully chosen and accepted by the current SI are compiled here. These contributions address critical challenges in sustainable development, encompassing advanced modeling, numerical analysis, and computational tools. Topics cover a vast aspect of optimization applications, from optimization of renewable energy systems, efficient resource management, and innovative approaches to circular economy practices.</p>
