Opinion modulation and higher-order contact effects in dual-virus epidemic dynamics
摘要
This paper proposes a dual-virus epidemic model coupled with opinion dynamics on a multiplex network, explicitly incorporating higher-order interactions (HOI). We establish the system’s well-posedness and derive stability conditions for disease-free and endemic equilibria. To quantify the regulatory efficacy of social behavior, we introduce the Opinion Modulation Rate (OMR). Numerical simulations reveal that HOI induces nonlinear amplification and network-driven spillover effects. Crucially, we identify a structural limitation where opinion-based interventions fail in higher-order subgroups, creating ‘persistence sources’ that lead to control inefficacy. Furthermore, our results demonstrate that public opinion acts as a selective pressure, governing viral competition outcomes. These findings emphasize that behavioral adjustments must be complemented by structural interventions to manage complex epidemics effectively.
