<p>This review presents a description of the characteristics of poststroke speech disorders, including epidemiological data on their prevalence and spectrum; the characteristics of various forms of disorders are presented. The possibility of using mirror therapy in stroke patients as an accessible, simple, safe, and inexpensive method representing a relatively new direction in the treatment of aphasia is discussed. The literature review also pays attention to descriptions of various mechanisms for the implementation of positive therapeutic effects, including the concept of activation of mirror neurons during the performance of certain actions or when observing the actions of the hands, the facial muscles of the periarticular region, and the tongue. The results of a neuroimaging study were used to assess the effectiveness of simultaneous restoration of hand motor function and speech using mirror therapy with visual biofeedback in the rehabilitation of patients with poststroke speech disorders. The article presents results from numerous clinical studies, meta-analyses, and descriptions of clinical observations confirming the effectiveness of mirror therapy for speech disorders after stroke.</p>
