Detection of Disease by Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds: I. Detector Dogs
摘要
This paper presents an overview of current research on the role of volatile organic compounds in the diagnosis of cancer. The olfactory capabilities of dogs are discussed, along with the use of animal biosensors in identifying diseased organisms among healthy ones; the complexities of this method are addressed and it is compared with instrumented research methods. The review includes results from the authors’ own research and published data on the features of the use of trained animals in the study of volatile organic compounds associated with the development of cancer. Possible directions for the development of this area of research are proposed.
