<p>The pharmacological properties and practical application of the benzodiazepine receptor agonist zolpidem are analyzed. The definition and clinical significance of insomnia in medical practice and the basis for selecting drugs of the hypnotics class for its treatment are discussed. The main pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of zolpidem are described. Research data are presented on its effects on subjective and objective sleep parameters, safety, and side effects, as well as the specific features of prescriptions to different groups of patients and its long-term use (up to 12 months).</p>
