摘要

Oxygen–helium mixtures demonstrate marked efficacy in animal models of ischemia/reperfusion, opening up the possibility of using helium mixtures as an emergency measure for the treatment of vascular embolism. We modeled cerebral arterial air embolism by introducing an air bubble into the internal carotid artery of awake rats. Inhalation of a warmed oxygen–helium mixture in the first hour after modeling arterial embolism normalized deviations in physiological values and prevented ischemic damage to the brain, while the use of warmed oxygen–helium mixture 2 h after modeling arterial embolism significantly aggravated the animals’ condition.
