<p>Tactile games and play massage are normal interactions between adults and children in many cultures. Experimental data have demonstrated that activation of the C-tactile system during such play touching promotes socialization of children and establishment of psychoemotional connections in the parent–child dyad. However, no comprehensive studies of the influence of different types of touch on the perception of tactile stimulation in children have yet been conducted. The present study involved 23 children: 10 subjects in the preschool group and 13 in the elementary-school group. Children in both groups underwent play massage including different types of touches with simultaneous recording of the electroencephalogram (EEG) and heart rate. EEG processing included determination of spectral power, peak α-rhythm frequency, and fractal dimension. Analysis of the results showed that the relaxing effect of the procedure was more marked in children of elementary-school age, which can be explained by both the greater maturity of the CNS and a greater need for tactile contact, which is not realized in the school environment.</p>
