<p>Assistive applications have become essential tools for visually impaired individuals in managing their daily lives independently. Numerous studies have been conducted on developing innovative, impactful, and challenging solutions to address their unique needs, while the usability and design issues of such application were not much focused. Therefore, the primary objective of this research is to analyze the existing assistive applications developed for the visually impaired users to explore their functionalities, features, and design issues. To attain this objective, firstly a systematic search and selection of relevant applications from the App stores for visually impaired people were conducted. Next, relevant data such as app features, app functionalities, user reviews, and ratings were extracted from the selected applications. Finally, the extracted data were analyzed using the Noticing-Collecting-Thinking model, statistical analysis and the affinity diagram. As outcome, this study reveals nine key functional features that commonly appear across assistive apps for visually impaired users. The study also reveals twelve critical design considerations specifically adapted to improve usability and user experience for visually impaired people. Furthermore, statistical analysis, including regression and chi-square tests, suggested that design quality has more significant impact in user satisfaction than the number of features. It was observed that that navigation-related apps are more likely to receive performance-related complaints. Additionally, a three-layered framework is proposed for usable assistive app development, where the first layer focuses on common user experience enhancements, the second layer maps task specific features based on app categories and the third layer outlines the direction on potential future enhancements of features. Overall, these findings suggest the importance of highlight the importance of usability features and user-centric design to further enhance app usability for visually impaired users.</p>
