Augmented Reality-Enabled heritage preservation using artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, and collaborative repositories
摘要
Cultural heritage preservation seeks to conserve material artefacts, traditions, and knowledge for future generations. It faces countless challenges, including the deterioration of historical artefacts, accessibility, and subpar documentation practices. Newer technology developments in conservation include Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, and collaborative repositories. AI-based methodologies include supervised and unsupervised learning to catalogue heritage objects and aid in identifying object deterioration. Blockchain technology creates secure and immutable records for digital objects while preventing anonymous alterations to data. Digital media now have enhanced provenance tracking methods. Collaborative repositories provide global access to cultural data that encourages transdisciplinary research and alternative access for public engagement. Furthermore, Augmented Reality (AR) technologies are increasingly employed to provide interactive visualization and immersive experiences of heritage artefacts, enhancing public engagement and education. However, these advances face challenges in standardized data definition, computational resource availability, and ethical considerations for the digital ownership of heritage. This review investigates the convergence of AI, blockchain, AR and collaborative digital platforms in the preservation of heritage, examining their potential, constraints and future research directions for sustainable cultural conservation.
