Exploring apoptotic pathways: implications for cancer, inflammation, and neurodegeneration
摘要
Apoptosis, a fundamental process of programmed cell death, continues to be a central focus of biomedical research, with new insights constantly reshaping our understanding of its mechanisms and roles in disease. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of apoptosis research, highlighting its regulation under both physiological and pathological conditions. We discuss the molecular pathways that govern apoptosis, the emerging small molecules designed to target these pathways, and their potential therapeutic applications. Additionally, the review explores the involvement of apoptosis in various inflammatory and degenerative diseases, such as chronic lung diseases and neurodegenerative disorders. Special attention is given to the challenges posed by apoptosis resistance, particularly in cancer therapy, and the role of the tissue and tumor microenvironment in modulating apoptotic responses. By synthesizing the latest findings, this review seeks to offer a detailed framework for understanding apoptosis in health and disease, while also identifying key areas where future research could offer new therapeutic opportunities.
