<p>The article presents a&#xa0;mechanism for estimating economic losses associated with measurement error, i.e., losses due to false acceptance and false rejection resulting from the errors of measuring instruments. In order to find scientific data and methods for solving this problem, the author studied domestic and foreign regulations and publications. A&#xa0;computer program was developed for computing the probabilities of false rejection and false acceptance. This program was used to generate an expanded table that contains the results of calculating the limiting probability values, as well as diagrams for their determination, based on the data on the tolerance of the analyzed parameter, the root-mean-square measurement error, and the root-mean-square manufacturing (process-related) error. A&#xa0;general mathematical model for estimating economic losses due to measurement error was formulated and presented. The model was developed taking the tenets of mathematical statistics and probability theory into account. In the evaluation of investment metrology projects, economic efficiency is proposed to be measured by the amount of money saved through the use of more precise measuring instruments, rather than by the organization’s revenue. The study results can be used to develop a&#xa0;procedure for evaluating the efficiency of investment projects, taking the specifics of metrological activities into account.</p>
