Increase of the corrosion resistance of secondary manufactured titanium by molybdenum alloying

The effect of alloying with molybdenum (Mo) on the electrochemical properties of α‑titanium manufactured by secondary technology (electroslag remelting in an open mould to produce a 55 mm diameter ingot) was investigated. The consumable electrode was made from the cutting waste (sheet scrap) of commercially pure titanium (90 wt%) and molybdenum (10 wt%). The electrochemical behavior of the titanium samples in 40% H2SО4 and 20% HCl solutions was evaluated by the potentiodynamic polarization method. The Mo-alloyed titanium has higher corrosion resistance compared to secondary manufactured and commercially pure VT1‑0 titanium.
