Comprehensive 6E analysis of stepped tray semi-cylindrical solar still with sensible and latent heat storage materials
摘要
The population of the world is increasing at a fast pace and to manage the availability of drinking water for everyone is a serious problem. Unavailability of drinkable water in ample amount is a major issue in consideration. However, the water available in arid, remote and coastal area is not at all drinkable. The excess amount of saline water in seas or oceans provides a valuable opportunity to utilize desalination process for the generation of drinkable water. Solar desalination particularly still is one of the promising approaches with minimum cost and sustainable solution to get the potable water. To find the best solution, investigations have been carried on the semi-cylindrical solar still associated with stepped tray having different arrangements. The experimental procedure contains the comparative investigation of the three different setups of semi-cylindrical solar still: MSSS1 (still with tray), MSSS2 (still with tray and gravels) and MSSS3 (still with tray and PCM) carried out in the geographical location of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India. The results for the experiment were encouraging, and the outcomes reveal that the cumulative output of MSSS3 is 4.7 kg m−2 which is 51% more than the yield of the MSSS1. MSSS3 exhibited the highest maximum energy efficiency of 67.13%, surpassing MSSS1 (37.84%) by 43.13% and MSSS2 (60.24%) by 11.43%. Similarly, the maximum exergy efficiency for MSSS3 was 19.2%, considerably greater than MSSS1 (11.23%) and MSSS2 (13.54%). Economic analysis reveals that the MSSS3 also proved advantageous, achieving the lowest CPL of $0.0104 compared to $0.0133 for MSSS1 and $0.0106 for MSSS2. The exergoeconomic value of the MSSS3 is 36.36% more than MSSS1. The exergoenviroeconomic value of MSSS3 is also high 120.7 $ Year−1.
