Recent advances on the thermal and optical losses reduction of the linear Fresnel collectors: a state-of-the-art review

Supplying energy with environmental considerations is a growing concern in today’s world. Renewable energy resources, especially solar energy, are promising options to tackle the global energy challenge. Utilizing solar thermal energy resources via solar thermal collectors is preferable for thermal energy production. Linear Fresnel collectors are being vastly considered among several types of collectors due to their cost effectiveness and high thermal performance. However, due to the common losses of these collectors, such as thermal and optical losses, their further developments have been concerningly challenged. Hence, the researchers are working on methods to reduce these losses. The current review aims to provide a review of the recent methods researchers proposed to reduce losses. Thermal and optical losses such as shading and blocking, end losses, primary reflectors curvature, secondary reflector, and effects of geometrical parameters are the investigated subsections. Finally, some concluding remarks and future trends in the research field are presented.
