Synergistic effects of γ-irradiation and zeolite catalyst for improving pyrolysis process of polypropylene

Herein, we investigated the influence of gamma irradiation on the polypropylene (PP) cracking process utilizing a ZSM-5 catalyst. The results revealed that the conversion T50 values of PP0, PP20, and ZPP20 show a shift to a lower temperature. The irradiation treatment could promote the catalytic process by decreasing the operating temperature, as proven by the reduction in the observed activation energy. Moreover, it is also shown that the combination of γ-irradiation and zeolite catalyst could significantly enhance the liquid product and direct the selectivity towards aromatic products, which are favorable for fuels and petrochemical purposes.
