Portable gamma-ray tomography for non- destructive evaluation of industrial water pipelines: a novel application in mining operations
摘要
This study presents the novel application of a portable gamma-ray tomographic imaging system for the hydraulic evaluation of a freshwater pipeline supplying an iron pellet production plant. Designed for non-invasive, non-destructive inspection, the system was deployed on-site to detect internal coating detachment without disrupting operations. It achieved high-resolution imaging (~ 2 mm) and showed consistent performance in both laboratory and field conditions. The findings demonstrate its value as a practical tool for early damage detection, preventive maintenance, and structural assessment—helping protect the longevity and integrity of critical infrastructure.
