Phytic acid-functionalized bamboo-derived porous biochar for high-efficiency and recyclable uranium(VI) removal from radioactive wastewater

Phytic acid-functionalized bamboo biochar (BC-400-PO₄) achieves exceptional U(VI) adsorption capacity (624.81 mg/g) at pH 6 within 240 min. The material demonstrates outstanding reusability, retaining 91% efficiency over five cycles. Practical validation via fixed-bed column tests confirms its efficacy: 120 mg BC-400-PO4 reduces uranium concentrations from 0.456 mg/L to 0.082 mg/L across 8 L of actual wastewater. This work establishes sustainable bamboo-derived biochar as a high-performance adsorbent for nuclear effluent remediation, showcasing strong potential for real-world implementation.
