Characterization of the absorption and translocation of 14C-glyphosate in Machaerium hirtum: a problematic arboreal weed in Brazilian pasture

This study aimed to evaluate the absorption and translocation of 14C-glyphosate in Machaerium hirtum at 3, 24, and 72 h after application (HAA) of a radiolabeled solution containing 14C-glyphosate and a commercial product at a dose of 0.72 kg a.e. ha⁻1, applied to the adaxial surface of a leaf (3299.82 Bq/plant). Absorption at 3, 24, and 72 HAA was 0.57, 5.84, and 4.29%, respectively. Translocation was higher at 72 HAA (0.37%), which compromises the effectiveness of chemical control. Therefore, absorption and translocation are low. This is the first report on the use of a non-selective and broad-spectrum herbicide as an alternative for the chemical control of this species.
