<p>The rapid detection of radioactivity in human urine after suspected intake during a radiological emergency incident is crucial for guiding medical treatment. A rapid gross alpha/beta urine radiobioassay liquid scintillation method was developed using <sup>239</sup>Pu and <sup>90</sup>Sr. Minimum detectable activities as a function of count time at different quench values were determined. Calculated minimum detectable ingestion and inhalation intakes were compared to standard intake thresholds. Detector performance resolving alpha and beta signals was tested with samples containing different alpha:beta activity ratios as a function of quench and count time. The acquired results revealed the advantages and limitations of the method.</p>
