Efficient adsorption properties of uranium from wastewater using biochar derived from Hami-melon peels

The adsorption characteristics of U(VI) by Hami-melon peel biochar (HPBC) were explored. The morphology and composition of the biochar were revealed using SEM, FT-IR and XPS means. oxygenated functional groups and negatively charged groups on biochar were found to complex and electrostatically interact with U(VI). Through static adsorption experiments, the effects of temperature, time, uranium concentration, and other factors on the adsorption of uranium by biochar were studied. HPBC exhibited an excellent removal efficiency (95%) for U(VI), and kinetic and isotherm model fitting analysis indicates that this is a monolayer chemical adsorption process. The results demonstrate that Hami-melon peel biochar is an efficient biosorbent that can be used for the treatment of uranium wastewater pollution.
