Revealing the impact of technological niche on value co-creation: the moderating role of the open innovation ecosystem structure
摘要
Organizations have been endeavoring to establish or integrate into open innovation ecosystems (OIEs) to achieve value co-creation with their components efficiently due to the development of a global value system. However, empirical research on the factors influencing value co-creation within OIEs remains limited. Therefore, this study proposes a conceptual framework for examining the relationship between technological niche and value co-creation within OIEs. Using a dataset of 397 listed biopharmaceutical enterprises from 2012 to 2020, we find that technological niche has a significant positive effect on value co-creation within OIEs. Further, the component interdependence within OIEs exhibits a U-shaped moderation effect on the relationship between the technological niche and value co-creation. In contrast, the component status dispersion demonstrates an inverted U-shaped moderation effect on this relationship. Overall, this research provides a clearer understanding of how OIEs realize value co-creation by analyzing the influencing factors from the technological niche perspective and examining the contingent factors from the ecosystem structure perspective.
