Mathematical Modeling of Water Softening Processes During Filtration in Porous Media

We propose a mathematical model of the process of changing the hardness of water in the course of its filtration in a porous medium whose skeleton is formed by ion-exchange resins (kainites) or crushed zeolites. For the obtained equations of the model, we formulate the corresponding problems of mathematical physics and perform qualitative analysis of their solutions corresponding to various physical conditions of convective diffusion of ions of impurity particles. Approximate solutions are obtained by using special functions. The estimates for the values of the diffusion coefficients and Henry’s constant are obtained.
