Terahertz emission from plasma induced by an extraordinary femtosecond laser pulse
摘要
The generation of terahertz (THz) radiation from a magnetized plasma under the normal incidence of a linearly polarized femtosecond laser pulse, whose electric field is perpendicular to the static magnetic field in the plasma, is investigated. The case where the carrier frequency of the laser pulse is close to the plasma frequency is considered. In this case, the static magnetic field varies from a value at which the carrier frequency coincides with the upper cutoff frequency to values at which the carrier frequency approaches the upper hybrid frequency. The possibility of a significant enhancement of the THz radiation is demonstrated upon increasing the static magnetic field when the pulse carrier frequency approaches the upper hybrid frequency.
