Relationship Between Years of Adventist Education and Adherence to the Health Message Among the Seventh-Day Adventists Worldwide
摘要
Seventh-day Adventists are Christians who believe in a wholistic development of humans that includes spiritual, physical, mental, and social dimensions. Because of this worldview, the Seventh-day Adventist Church has invested significant resources in fostering members’ spirituality through well-planned religious programs, their mental growth through distinctively Adventist schools, and their health through quality health education and services. Some research on blue zones has proven that people who strictly follow the Adventist health diet live longer and with a better quality of life. This article focuses on the relationship between the respondents’ years spent attending Adventist schools, earliest and latest exposure, and their health choices. The study is based on a survey that included 149,556 respondents from a denomination that now has 23 million members worldwide. Findings revealed that attending an Adventist college related to higher levels of acceptance and adherence to the Health Message as well as believing the message is supported by science but is not salvific.
