Group-Based Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Enhancing Resilience and Preventing Depression and Anxiety in At-Risk Elderly: A Randomized Controlled Trial
摘要
Older adults often face heightened vulnerability to depression and anxiety, influenced by social isolation, chronic illness, and cognitive decline. Preventative strategies are critical for promoting psychological well-being. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a group-based Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (MBCBI) in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms and enhancing resilience in elderly individuals at risk of mental health decline. A total of 77 participants aged 60–75 years were randomly assigned to either the intervention or control group. The MBCBI program was conducted over 10 weekly group sessions of 90 min each. Outcome measures included the Geriatric Depression Scale-Short Form (GDS-SF), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and a validated Resilience Scale. Significant improvements were observed in the intervention group, with reductions in depression and anxiety and increased resilience levels compared to controls at post-intervention and four-week follow-up (p < 0.01). Group-based MBCBI is an effective preventive strategy for improving emotional well-being and resilience in older adults at psychological risk. These findings highlight the potential integration of mindfulness-based behavioral programs in geriatric mental health settings.
