Social media use has become very common in the 21st century with the widespread use of the internet. As a result, problems linked to social media use have increased. One of these problems is social media burnout (SMB), a new concept. There are variables that may be related to SMB. In this study, we aimed to examine the relationship between irrational beliefs (IBs), psychological distress (PD), and SMB, as this relationship has not been examined before. We conducted the study on 572 social media users between the ages of 18 and 54. We used structural equation modeling (SEM) in the analysis. As a result of SEM, we found that IBs positively predicted SMB and PD, and SMB positively predicted PD. We also found that SMB mediates the relationship between IBs and PD. Considering the outcomes of the study, it is important to control the factors that lead to SMB, which is a new topic. Moreover, the results of this study show that studies should be conducted by both researchers and experts on the undesirable consequences of SMB.

摘要
