<p>“Global Medical Humanities: Exploring the ‘Milieu’” is a special issue that comes at a time when scholars from a range of disciplines within the medical humanities are thinking about the milieux of health. This issue is a product of an international conference, held and hosted by the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities at the University of Cambridge in October 2021. We envision the medical humanities like a “milieu,” not just a passive field. It is an actively structured field of conditions where physical, artistic, cultural, social, and economic movements are not commanded by external mechanisms of disciplinary authority.</p>
