摘要

Phonotactic behavior of male Acheta domesticus has not been described at length. The present study seeks to evaluate whether male A. domesticus exhibit phonotaxis to model calls of conspecific males in relation to age and syllable period preference. Young and old male crickets were exposed to calls with attractive and non-attractive syllable periods for this species. Although both age groups exhibited phonotaxis, they did not show a preference towards the attractive call over the non-attractive ones. No significant relationship was found between age and phonotactic response. Similarly, no significant differences were observed between age and preferred syllable period. The lack of age-related contributors to phonotaxis in A. domesticus could imply that the underlying neural network for pattern recognition in A. domesticus males is functionally distinct from that of conspecific females.
