Does future community initiative improve residents’ satisfaction with their living environment? Empirical evidence from Zhejiang, China
摘要
As a response to urban decay exacerbated by rapid urbanization, future communities are conceived to revitalize aging neighborhoods and encourage high-quality development through innovative planning and management, aiming to enhance residents’ quality of life. Despite the theoretical promise, empirical evidence supporting the effectiveness of future community policies in improving residents’ living environments has been lacking. This study aimed to fill this gap by assessing future community policies’ impact on residents’ living environment satisfaction. A questionnaire survey of residents of 28 future communities and 28 nearby ordinary communities was conducted in Zhejiang Province, China. Using propensity score matching (PSM) for data analysis, future community policies are associated with residents’ satisfaction with their living environments. Moreover, the effectiveness of these policies varies with income, housing type, residency duration, and community category. These findings offer empirical validation and strategic insights to optimize future community policies through refined planning and management practices.
