Efficacy of Psychoeducation for University Staff Working with Students Exposed to Childhood Domestic Violence
摘要
This study introduces the Winning SCORE Childhood Exposure to Domestic Violence (CEDV) training, an evidence-informed educational program tailored for university staff to enhance support for college students affected by CEDV.
MethodsThe efficacy of a four-hour psychoeducational training for Residence Life staff (N = 164) and a shortened, one-hour training for athletic advisors (N = 23) were evaluated using quantitative pre-training and post-training assessments and qualitative surveys to assess both understanding of CEDV and participants’ perceptions of the Winning SCORE training.
ResultsBoth trainings demonstrated significant improvements in participants’ awareness and knowledge of CEDV. Follow-up surveys for participants in both groups (35 Residence Life staff and 15 athletic advising staff) revealed positive perceptions of participants’ preparedness for encountering CEDV, utilization of trauma-informed care, and active listening skills post-training. Overall, findings suggest that the Winning SCORE training effectively enhances the knowledge, perceptions, and preparedness of university staff to support students affected by CEDV. Participants’ feedback underscores the importance of tailored training approaches and ongoing education to sustain acquired skills over time.
ConclusionThis current study provides valuable insights into the efficacy of CEDV psychoeducation for university staff and emphasizes the importance of fostering trauma-informed environments on college campuses.
