摘要

This paper summarizes the development of liquid-crystal visualization methods at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. The issues related to the description of the optical properties of liquid crystals in the context of the use of thin-film liquid-crystal coatings for visualizing surface temperatures and shear stresses. The results of the development of liquid-crystal materials for aerodynamic research are presented. Recommendations are given for using the developed coatings to visualize the structure of the wall flows in subsonic and hypersonic flows around models. The results of a comparison of temperature and surface friction measurements obtained using liquidcrystal coatings and traditional methods are presented.
