<p>The paper presents a brief overview of investigations into processes of high-velocity interaction of bodies carried out by scientists of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which, at a later stage, formed the basis for many investigations in the area of explosion, impact, and protection not only in Russia but also across the world. Consideration has been given to experimental approaches, methods of numerical simulation, and technological solutions referring to the study of specific features of objects’ interaction at extreme velocities. A description is given of important achievements in the area of developing efficient measures of protection against impact and explosion effects.</p>
