Playing with Food: Non-Immersive Virtual Reality to Teach Food Preparation
摘要
Technology-based interventions have strong support relative to the acquisition of life skills for students with IDD. While some attention exists to VR to support the acquisition of life skills for secondary students with IDD, limited research involves exploring the generalization of the skills acquired. In this study, researchers build upon an existing research base to explore non-immersive VR and life skills acquisition and generalization for secondary students with IDD. In this single case design study, a functional relation was found between the non-immersive VR that taught the students to cook a grilled cheese sandwich on a stove and the independent accuracy for three of the four participating students. Further, the researchers found the three students who also acquired the life skill of cooking a grilled cheese on a stove were able to generalize performing the skill in a real kitchen, despite limitations of the non-immersive VR to support generalization.
