Robert Hare’s Contribution to the Measurement and Understanding of Child and Adolescent Psychopathic Personality
摘要
This article reviews the work of Robert D. Hare, PhD, who made significant contributions to the measurement and understanding of child and adolescent psychopathic personality. Hare’s contributions are discussed in the context of his direct work and influence on the Psychopathy Checklist-Youth Version (PCL-YV) and the Antisocial Process Screening Device (ASPD). In addition, we discuss some of his indirect impacts on other measures such as the Child Psychopathy Scale (CPS), the Youth Psychopathic Traits Inventory (YPI), and the Child Problematic Traits Inventory (CPTI), as well as his most recent involvement in the Proposed Specifiers for Conduct Disorder scale (PSCD). In the article, we briefly outline the construction of the aforementioned measures to provide insight into age-bracket-based developmental adjustments. For each scale, we then highlight several key research studies to underscore the important findings they produced. Although there is more work to be done, Hare’s contributions on the establishment of child and adolescent psychopathy measures helped pave the way for researchers to make further scientific gains in comprehending and intervening with psychopathic traits early in their development.
