摘要

This study investigates the development of UV-reflective functional coatings for bird-safe architectural glass using magnetron sputtering. (TiO₂/SiO₂)k multilayer thin films were deposited on soda-lime glass substrates with varying layer stack numbers (k = 3, 5, and 7). The optical properties of the samples, including transmittance and reflectance, were characterized by simulation environment and spectrophotometer measurements between 300 and 1200 nm at RT. Increasing the number of layers in stacks enhanced UV-A reflectance, reaching 93.3% at 365 nm for the (TiO₂/SiO₂)₇ film, but also slightly reduced visible light transmittance to 77.6%. To optimize performance, a modified 7- layer stack film (TiO₂/SiO₂)₇* with a reduced thickness was fabricated and annealed at 660 °C. This resulted in a significantly improved visible light transmittance of 86.9% while maintaining a high UV-A reflectance of 86.7% at 345 nm. The structural, chemical, and morphological properties of the films were analyzed using XRD, XPS, AFM, and SEM. XRD analysis confirmed the formation of the anatase TiO₂ phase after annealing. XPS revealed near-stoichiometric TiO₂ and SiO₂ compositions. AFM and SEM imaging demonstrated excellent surface and cross-sectional stability after annealing, with minimal changes in roughness and layer integrity. These results demonstrate the potential of magnetron-sputtered TiO₂/SiO₂ multilayer coatings for creating effective bird-safe architectural glass while preserving desirable optical properties for human perception. This approach offers a significant improvement in UV reflectance compared to previously reported TiO₂/SiO₂ based coatings and represents a novel contribution to bird strike mitigation strategies.
