摘要

Using fly ash as a matrix in a composite system offers a low-cost alternative to costlier ceramics, particularly porcelain ceramic products. Fly ash is usually obtained from thermal power plants and is mostly termed waste. It is produced by the combustion of coal, which endangers our environment. The objective of the present study is to utilize the fly ash waste from the power plants for electronic applications, which will have a significant socio-economic impact. A dielectric material has been developed utilizing fly ash and kaolin. Improved electrical and dielectric properties of the material at room temperature result from the sintering of raw ingredients. The impedance of the composite significantly enhanced from 28.51 to 40.50 MΩ. The X-ray diffraction analysis shows the various phases present in the material. Scanning electron micrographs reveal a compact structure of the composite and spherical morphology of the fly ash. Atomic force microscopy is implemented to explore the 3-dimensional profile of the samples. The Raman spectrum analysis revealed the presence of an amorphous mullite phase in the prepared composite. The ferroelectric P-E loop measurement shows enhanced saturation polarization for the composite material (10.70 nC/cm2) compared to the fly ash (7.85 nC/cm2). The microstructural, electrical, dielectric, and ferroelectric properties indicate that the developed lightweight composites may be used as a replacement for costlier ceramic materials.
