Towards Ag-doped sodium borate glass as a dosimeter candidate: an investigation of its optically stimulated luminescence response

The optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) properties of Ag-doped sodium borate (SB) glass were investigated to assess its potential as a dosimeter material. The OSL signal was effectively observed at 310 nm while stimulating at 450 ± 20 nm; the curve was deconvoluted into 3 components using general-order kinetics model, resulting in decay times of 0.12, 7.66 and 32.72 s and kinetic orders of 1.2, 1.0 and 1.0, respectively. The response of the material was evaluated over a dose range of 0.5–100 Gy under X-rays irradiation. Two measurement procedures were applied: with and without thermal annealing (400 °C for 200 s) performed after each OSL readout. Both procedures showed linear dose–response behavior, with annealing response being ~ 20% reduced in sensitivity. Despite this, annealing significantly improved signal reusability, as evidenced by a standard deviation of approximately 2% over ten consecutive measurements at 100 Gy. These findings suggest that Ag-doped SB glass presents characteristics relevant for dosimetric applications.
