Third-order nonlinear optical studies and investigation of the hydrogen bond network in 2-picolinic perchloric acid using neutron diffraction

The single crystals of 2-picolinic perchloric acid (2-PPCA), a notable nonlinear optical (NLO) material, were successfully cultivated using a slow evaporation method. A single crystal of size 15 × 14 × 6 mm3 was grown and the crystalline structure was precisely confirmed through single-crystal X-ray and neutron diffractions. In this study, we meticulously retrieved and analysed the NMR, FT-IR, Raman and UV–Vis spectra to gain deeper insights into their characteristics. Our study also provides a comprehensive examination of the nonlinear optical characteristics of 2-picolinic perchloric acid. The limiting threshold of the 2-picolinic perchloric acid solvent media and its third-order NLO features were investigated using the z-scan technique. The results from the z-scan analysis demonstrate that 2-picolinic perchloric acid is an excellent alternative for optoelectronic and photonic device design usances with a 2PA coefficient value of 17.5 × 10–12 m/W.
